Today was not that much fun. Really can’t use the term “Snow Day” for today. It was more Ice, I mean it was only Ice.

I spent the day troubleshooting our High School data connection. I had the guys from SEA Group in Springfield troubleshooting the fiber optic cable between the buildings. We found the problem and it seems to be in the splice where the fiber was cut when we put in the fiber for the District Office in 2000. Amazing that it would just stop working and really no signs that it was going bad. The cable guys said it was probably water and/or ice that is causing the data loss.

This will more than likely be a project for Spring or maybe Summer, so that it can be a budgeted item. In the meantime, we will get a point to point wireless bridge in place that will serve our need until it can be permanently fixed.

Technology is a wonderful thing when it is working and it is predictable. When we get to that point, we will really have something.
